The Edge - A coworking space in Dublin that produces its own energy using solar panels

The Edge is a place to work, a place to meet, a place to share ideas - and if you ask around, you’ll find that many people want to have a positive impact on the environment. We’re proud to have built a solar-powered Coworking & Office Space: The Edge.

1. Solar panels:

At The Edge we want to contribute to a greener community. We care about the environment and want to reduce our carbon footprint. This is why we decided to install solar panels on our two buildings.

2. Electric vehicle chargers:

We’ve also installed eight EV charging stations in our car park. Why? Because we want to use the excess electricity we produce from our solar panels to charge electric vehicles.

This is why we decided to invest in EV charging stations. The number of EV drivers is increasing, and we want to offer our customers a chance to recharge their cars while sitting in our lovely coffee shop or at work. We look forward to welcoming more EV drivers to both The Edge and Coffee@TheEdge

3. Heat recovery system:

We’re always looking at ways to improve our community and, as an environmentally-friendly organisation, we’re always eager to reduce our carbon footprint. We’ve installed a heat recovery system which has already made a noticeable difference.

We’re lucky enough to have an abundance of natural sunlight in our office space, but to make the most of it we installed a heat recovery system. The system works by using air vents that draw out the warm air from the offices and then using a fan to constantly blow the cold air from the communal area into the offices.

A heat exchanger is then used to transfer the heat from the outgoing air to the incoming air to maintain the temperature. Heat recovery systems are used in offices and homes all over Ireland and are a great way to reduce your carbon footprint.

4. Wall insulation:

The walls are one of the essential parts of an office building. They provide insulation, preventing the loss of heat into the surrounding environment.

They also protect the office from the noise and elements outside. But, because the walls contact the outside environment and are exposed to many different weather conditions, they can be highly susceptible to wear. We have installed a layer of thick external wall insulation, boosting heat retention in the building.

Conclusion:

The Edge is a working space for sustainability-minded people and organisations.

The goal of The Edge is to become a centre of excellence for sustainability, offering a comfortable co-working and office space with a minimal environmental footprint in the local community.
