Hi guys,
Could you please use this post to share your project? If you do not have any project to work on, could you please specify if you are available to collaborate in a project of another participant, and what could you bring to it?
Let's the collaboration begin!
Cheers :)
Hi everyone. I'm very happy to be collaborating with Mary Boissel from 'Getting There'. In Mary's words, she set up her enterprise to bring experienced, capable and retired people and businesses together for part time temporary jobs. Getting There provides the introduction/handshake. GettingThere.ie Getting There works on many levels and has many strands.
Getting temporary, part time paid jobs for retired people
Providing information
Encouraging a barter system of goods and services. e.g. A mentor to a Start up Vs 3 prepared lunches, gutter cleaning vs repairs etc
Information. It is hard to get relevant information in Ireland. For a country of chatters, we communicate poorly.
Influencing policy. Ireland’s population is ageing. Many organisations/Government departments want us to be twinkly grandparents, easily exploited, easily pushed aside. However, we still have plenty to contribute to making this country more equitable. One of the reasons I want to help Mary is that I myself (and lots of other people) need to start having conversations around this exciting time of our lives. Let's lose the fear and start making some positive plans. And let's value older members of the community who still have lots to contribute. We welcome help from others in the group and want to do the same in return! Happy holiday weekend all...
Sounds interesting Mary & Aisling, once I get my head around my project I'm willing to share and help out with others!
Hi I'm Neltah Chadamoyo and I'm working on a Social Enterprise for a Solar Cooker. We already have a prototype but we have more work to do on the battery. We're currently working on sourcing funding to do more work on the battery at the same time exploring how we can set up a Social Enterprise and maintain it. I'm open to working with people who can help me in my project. If you'd like to join me contact me on chadamon@tcd.ie. Thank you. Neltah
sounds very technical Neltah. I'm not sure if in my area of expertise but would love to help out once I get my head around my own project!
@Michele O'S I thought so too since I don't have an engineering background. I even went as far as doing a Fitting and Turning course to understand some of the technical aspects of designing the cooker that were frustrating me and ended up having such a blast in the class despite being the only woman and first woman in that school. What I learnt is to unlearn everything and be open to surprises and it's been a great experience despite the many frustrations. We have a prototype already so most of what we need to do is to get the battery aspect sorted out, which is also proving to be very technical but my kids have been great in reminding me about how electricity works for dummies ;-) and I do have to say I am still learning but also allowing those that know to do what needs to be done.
I am happy to help if you need support. Fortunately my kids are now in college though I do wish your services had been there during my time because without family here it was very hard sometimes. I hope this takes off in a huge way as schools may benefit too if they get a % of the fee if the care is done in schools.
@Neltah Chadamoyo Yes, I think there are a few user groups that could benefit - just have to work out how to do that best!
That sounds really interesting Neltah! I'd love to help you when we have our individual project pages set up.
Thanks very much Aisling. What's your project and how is it going?
Hi Neltah, I'm collaborating with Mary Boissel on her enterprise which is called Getting There. Mary offers support and shares part-time job opportunities with retired people. We're at the very early exploration stage but we're also getting there (even if the progress is slow)!
I saw that and I'm so happy someone is doing that. I don't believe in retirement just because of age. Will follow your journey and all the best
Thanks Neltah - It's an area that really interests me too and it's definitely a conversation that all of us need to be having. We're all on the path to this time of life, if we are lucky enough to get there :-) It was lovely to 'see' you today in the Friday session!
Hi, I'm working on childcare co-located in schools and administrative supports for smaller childcare providers. No name yet and only in very early concept development stage, so need to think about it a lot more. I'm getting Mural pages set up and should be able to start sharing these next week. I'm also happy to work with other groups and I would also welcome anyone who wants a project to work on. Also, if any of you who have children in primary school and childcare outside the home, it would be great if you were willing to do interviews with me, as I'm going to focus on parents using childcare in my first stage of research, personas, etc.
Hi Mary - this sounds interesting. I'd love to offer any help I can when you have your Mural page set up. I only have a cat though, so I can't offer any childcare advice :-)
